Vertex is likely to be an attractive purchase for potential bidders. In the 10 years since Vertex was established, it has grown from an in-house provider of customer services for United Utilities to one of the larger UK business process outsourcers.
The company has a range of blue-chip clients as well as some of the UK's largest local authority and central government clients. Recently, it has secured several contracts including an agreement with the CSA, and a five-year deal with DB Mortgages. It acquired financial services company Marlborough Stirling in 2005 and has formed a partnership with the acclaimed Henley Management College.
It is likely that Vertex would be sold to a trade buyer rather than floated on the stockmarket or sold to an MBO team. Predictions on what the business could be worth range between $393m to $590m.
Vertex provides services, from handling bill payments and local authority duties to work for the government's Child Support Agency - employs 7,000 people.
